Darby’s Blue Sundress

Glamourous poses of boudoir model looking to the side

Darby is a model and burlesque performer based in Las Vegas. In fact, she’s a member of the Burlesque Hall of Fame. We connected on the East Coast, however, when both of us happened to be there for unrelated business.

I was photographing in Baltimore’s inner harbor area for a commercial client. I hadn’t really planned boudoir on this trip. However, I was staying at one of the huge convention hotels in that neighborhood. Upon checking in, I discovered that my room had beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows that let in amazing mid-summer natural light. So I immediately realized I had to find at least one model for a session in this space.

I posted a “casting call” on one of the modeling websites, and in just a short while received a reply. It was Darby, who was also in town on non-modeling business. She was interested in my post. I had stated that I hadn’t brought along my usual boudoir lighting gear, and I had just a simple camera setup with me. But that I had amazing morning natural light. Darby replied that she hadn’t brought along any lingerie or other wardrobe. But that she could show up with hair and makeup ready to shoot. We scheduled for early the next morning, both confident that we could figure out creating a successful session together.

It was late-June, which in Baltimore is hot and humid. Darby showed up in this beautiful yet simple navy blue sundress. And she looked amazing with died-red hair and beautiful glamour makeup. We decided we’d start out with some images in the sundress on the bed. We then shot the rest of the session as a “white sheet series” along with boudoir nudes.

This gallery features some favorite images with the blue sundress. Be sure to stop back to see the rest of the session (you know, after the dress came off).

For the photographers reading, these photos were made with the Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera. Lenses were the Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 and 56mm f/1.2 . Lighting was simply available window light.
