Tiffany and I first connected during one of my Midwest boudoir marathon events. While shooting her boudoir session, Tiffany mentioned that she aspired to model. She had thought about contacting model agencies in her area, but she wasn’t sure how to get started.
I really liked Tiffany’s look and style, and she is one of the most kind individuals you will ever meet. And, I actually work fairly frequently with the top agency in her city as one of their “agency-approved” studios. So I offered to help her create images for a model zed card to send to agencies, while I was in town.
Among a few other genres, swimwear modeling was among Tiffany’s key interests. So shortly after her boudoir session, I scheduled a swimwear session with Tiffany. We set an early-morning weekday meetup. This way we could create some available-light editorial swimwear portraits with the sun low in the sky. Other looks using strobes would follow later in the morning. It was a September morning, and we had the beach entirely to ourselves.
We went on to shoot some other styles, as well, on another day. I’ll plan to share some images from Tiffany’s other sessions soon. But for now, here are some favorites from my swimwear session with Tiffany.

For the many photographers that visit my galleries: the first set of these portraits were made pretty early in the morning. About 7:30am, in fact. Tiffany and I chose this time so the sun would be low in the sky for natural-light “lifestyle” looks. I then used studio strobes with a battery pack to overpower the sun as it got higher in the sky. Cameras were the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and X-E2. Mounted to them were the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4R and 56mm f/1.2R lenses. Strobes were my “beach” set-up: inexpensive Alien Bees lights with a Paul C Buff battery pack. These are inexpensive: if they blow over into the sand or water, they’re cheap to replace.
