20 Minutes with Josie

Brunette model in cami and nylon stockings poses on a hotel sofa

Josie briefly dropped in to one of my New York City boudoir marathon events. She only had a short window of time, but I worked her in to my schedule. We planned just a couple of poses for boudoir portraits, in two lingerie outfits. Though we planned an hour long session, as it turned out I only had 20 minutes with Josie.

Josie arrived at our Times Square event hotel with hair and makeup ready to shoot. Thankfully, she is a beautiful young woman who needed virtually no makeup, anyway. The makeup artist I partnered with for this event helped her with a hairbrush, a little lipstick, and that’s all. Josie changed into lingerie and we were shooting within a few minutes of her arrival.

Josie and I had decided ahead of time that we would just do two casual poses: one on the sofa, one on the white bedsheets. Simple lifestyle poses. We also decided to focus on contrasty black-and-white images for these portraits.

So here are a few images from the limited set we made that morning. I hope you enjoy the results of my 20 minutes with Josie.

For the photographers reading, I made this set with the Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera. Even today, many years after its introduction, with the right lenses it remains an excellent camera for boudoir work. Its files are organic, filmic, with lovely colors. For this session, I used the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4R and the Fujinon 56mm f/1.2R lenses – my staple lenses for Fujifilm boudoir images. Lighting was with Elinchrom studio strobes and Westcott light boxes, and probably a white reflector at times.
